- Research
The last two years are tailored to fit the goals and interests of the graduating resident. Of the 24 months, 12 are spent as chief resident and 12 are devoted to either research in a structured laboratory environment or advanced clinical training in on of the six following areas as determined by the resident. These represent intensive “fellowship-like” experiences with faculty which are nationally and internationally renown.
- Pain Management and Movement Disorders:
- One of the most active deep-brain stimulation programs for Parkinson’s Disease in the country.
- Cranial Nerve Disorders:
- An international referral center for conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia and hemi-facial spasm.
- Complex Spine:
- Performing hundreds of instrumentation cases per year for both degenerative disease as well as trauma generated problems from our Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Neuro-Oncology:
- Combines experience of hundreds of craniotomies each year for tumor resection plus extensive LINAC based radiosurgery experience.
- Neuro-Endoscopy:
- Led by one of the pioneers in the field; both spine and intra-cranial applications are performed.
- Skull Base and Neuro-Vascular:
- An intensive exposure to over 100 surgically treated aneurysms as well as a breadth of skull-base cases
